Women's Lacrosse Blowout!

This years Mercyhurst Women's lacrosse team has been dominating in the PSAC. In their first game they beat number one rival Gannon and then on April 28th they shocked No. 1 West Chester to move them up into the No. 3 spot. This past Wednesday, they made playing lacrosse look easy as they trampled over Seton Hill, 20-3, scoring goal after goal right from the start. Nine different Mercyhurst players scored in the game, led by Kristie Jennings who had four goals and three assists. They started right out of the gate with a goal by Kim Masterton in the first 30 seconds.
The girls were running around the other team as if they were cones. This game was basically like a practice for them. The ball was in our offensive end for probably about 90% of the first half which gave them the opportunity to try out all sorts of plays.

Once the ball did come across the 50yd line into our defensive end, Maeve McGoff, was there to save the day with some spectacular saves.  The defense made some great plays as well to help out and get the ball back to the offense.

Overall, the first half was pretty boring to watch because of the goal after goal and very little exciting action. Although boring in a good way, the Lakers ended the half 13-1. In the second half, Coach Pilson put in one of the other three goalies, Jessica Raniero.  The beginning of the second half started off the same way the first half had ended.

Again the Lakers attacked Seton Hill with a barrage of goal after goal, although, only 7 goals were scored in this half. I assume they were beginning to take it easy on the other team as is a common courtesy sometimes offered. This half Seton hill actually scored two more goals to put there total at 3 for the whole game.

In the end, the No. 3 Lakers women's lacrosse team proved their ranking by completely routing Seton Hill.

Interview with Kira Ceppaglia

Q: How long have you been playing lacrosse?
A: This will be my 7th year.

Q: What would you say is one of the main factors accountable for the team's success this year?
A: The Mercyhurst Lacrosse Team has matured exponentially in attitude and talent since our seniors were freshmen and we have found incredible ways to bond with one another.

Q: What is practice like for the team?
A: We bring a lot of intensity to the field at every practice; the practices are always mentally and physically demanding and challenging. Everyone is constantly competing for their spot on the field while simultaneously working together to make the team work.

Q: Which games this season would you like to see a lot of students attend?
A: Of the two games left, while we would like to see people at both of them, we would really appreciate support at our game against Lock Haven.  They are still, also, a ranked team and our last game against them was extremely intense.

Q: How far does the team expect to make it this year?
A: This particular group of girls is extremely talented and have the possibility to go all the way to the Final Four. We would like to advance to the PSAC finals and if we remain in first place in the PSAC West we will have the opportunity to host the conference final.  Our goal is to do this and move onto the NCAA Final Four. Ultimately the team goal is to win and be number one in NCAA division II.
